Literature
llustrated in our book:
Beatriz Chadour-Sampson & Sonya Newell-Smith, Tadema Gallery London Jewellery from the 1860s to 1960s, Arnoldsche Art Publishers, Stuttgart 2021, p. 173
cf. Charlotte Gere, European & American Jewellery 1830-1914, 1975, page 158 plate 152 shows the brooch executed by Hardman c.1880 based on the design by Burges, in the collection of the City Museum & Art Gallery Birmingham.
It has been suggested, on good authority that this brooch designed by Burges, was executed earlier than the Hardman version. Probably by Mackay, Cunningham & Co, Crown Goldsmiths to the Queen, 62 Princes Street, Edinburgh.
